Final Gangster thriller moodboard

Here is a mood board of various Crime-Thrillers. What seems to be most apparent is that the poster shows a man or group of men covering the overall image of the poster. This links to men being represented within society as dominating characters. This has given our group inspiration to potentially have a female protagonist.

Final Horror-thriller moodboard

moodboard
Here is an example of a mood-board consisting of various horror films. Throughout each of the individual posters, they each contain close ups or mid shots of  struggling or ominous characters. Additionally the type face tends top be in a pale white colour or deep red. The white gives connotations of ghostliness and evil spirits, whereas the red conveys blood, gore and torture.

Preliminary Task- Storyboard

Pre-production we all sat down and decided what shots and what dialogue we was going to do and when we got it all down onto paper we then went a recorded. During production there were a few problems such as teachers and students walking past while we was filming which then meant we had to re take. Also, throughout the recording we decided to change some shots because they looked better than what we decided in Pre-production. Post-production we sat down and tried to edit it together but, came across a problem with Alex's phone, as it is broken we weren't able to edit the whole recording. Then Alex sent it to Marc and he went to the library and edited it alone while me and Alex went to lesson.

First draft- Cape Fear Analysis

Cape Fear Analysis

Within the first scene of this clip the use of a non-diegetic soundtrack would be used to captivate the audience with the use of a dramatic soundtrack. In the first scene an establishing shot is used to show the setting of the scene, the water used could suggest the depth within the storyline and has connotations of death/drowning. The connotations of the bird of prey are danger and power, this could imply that the main character has authority and power over the other characters. The extreme close up of the open eye suggests fear due to it making the audience feel intimidated and exposed. As the opening goes on the extreme close-up of an open mouth could imply to the audience that the person is struggling and screaming for help due to the depth of the river that had the prevalence of the opening scene. The reflection of the screaming man drowning signifies to the audience that there is danger foreshadowed. The reflection of red within the water could suggest danger and blood, after this a man is shown in the reflection of the river which would suggest that this man would be the reason to why the red would have been portrayed as it is in this scene and furthermore the red could connote to how much blood and death has been caused by the man. The shot is then zoomed out on a girl using a mid-shot who begins talking, her diegetic dialogue is her saying that the river is magical and lovely, this could then suggest that something is about to happen to the river or the place but it may not be a good thing. She is wearing what looks like a school uniform as she is wearing a white polo shirt that can indicate innocence and purity, which goes completely against what the clip was showing with the red/blood.

The second part of the clip opens with a pan down a wall with pictures of famous military leader’s also legal books and a bible, which was on top of the other books. This can then give us the impression that the person who has the books is intelligent but because the bible is on top of the other books it could mean that they are very religious as well. The camera zooms out from the wall onto a man who is doing tricep drips and on his back he has a large tattoo of the scales of justice and a cross, the scales of justice on his back are tattooed even which could imply that he is more biblical and violent for of justice. As the camera zooms out you can then see that he is in a prison cell, and the tricep dips shows that he is physically fit and has spent his time in prison training. A guard then opens his door and uses diegetic dialogue and says, “Ok Cady, the moment you’ve been waiting for” which implies that he is getting released from prison. When Cady walks out of is prison ceil all of the other inmates there are standing up and looking at him in silence that could imply that the other inmates are shocked that he has been let out of prison. As Cady is leaving the guard then asks whether someone is coming for him and Cady just shakes his head, this then shows that Cady has nobody and possibly his past has done that to him and that could be that reason for why he was in prison in the first place. A different guard then asks what he wants to do with his books and he replies, “already read em” this then shows how long that Cady was in prison for because he had read a lot of books and is now ready to cause chaos. The final shot of the whole clip shows the Cady standing in front of the prison and a storm coming behind which could imply that Cady is going to be a destructive and dangerous as a storm, and Cady then walking into the camera shows how savage he is.
